Are You Inadvertently Sabotaging Your Diet Plan?

By Troy Faust

Everybody knows that the most effective foods we can take in are whole grains, lean meats along with healthy fats. These will be the food items that should give us the energy and protein we need. They keep our bodies nutritionally well balanced with minimal calories while we work hard to lose our fat at the gym. Did you know, though, that a few of the foods you are eating that are supposed to be perfectly fine by dietary standards, could be keeping you from losing weight at a good pace? They might even be keeping you from losing weight altogether! Here are some of the foods that may be undermining your diet efforts.

Sports Drinks aren't helping you at all. You've probably been told that if you want to help your body replenish itself after a work out, you should drink a sports drink. Most physicians recognize, however, that if your workout is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are full of calories and sugar and a bunch of other stuff like artificial flavors and colors that will defeat any of your attempts at eating a natural plus healthy diet. Choose chocolate milk for your drink as an alternative. Your body employs the sugar within the chocolate for muscle mass repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Skip that protein shakes. Lots of individuals believe that having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. The real truth is that if you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is overburden your system with protein. Converse to typical belief, protein is not stored as muscle tissue fiber, it is stored as fat. If you've already consumed your daily allotment of protein that day, your body will just store the extra in your fat cells for later and that won't help you drop pounds or inches.

Pre-packaged deli meat isn't nearly as good for you as you might believe it is. You may possibly believe that a sandwich crafted from whole wheat bread and pre-packaged lean deli meat makes for a good lunch. Actually, pre-packaged deli meat has much too many preservatives plus sodium (one serving contains about a third of the amount of sodium you should eat in a day). This is often specifically harmful if you are at risk for heart disease. Instead of buying the pre-packaged stuff, you should instead use home cooked poultry or freshly sliced meat from your grocery store's deli counter. Sure these are generally extra expensive options but they are tremendously healthier for you.

There are many things that we believe are better than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your medical professional what the best means for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you are mindful about precisely what you take in and treat your body well, losing weight should not be that big of an issue for you!
