By Abraham Merullo

Nutrition is what turns the act of eating and drinking into a plan for healthy living. If you want to live a healthy lifestyle, you have to start with proper nutrition. Eating nutritiously means a long life and healthy body. Read on to learn more about nutrition and how it affects you.

If you need some healthy snacks, eat some raw vegetables. They help to sate some of your food cravings without resorting to unhealthy salty or sugary snacks. They can be just as easy to stow away and get ready as processed junk foods. In addition, they don't cause as much of a mess as your convenience foods. Raw vegetables are a great between meal snack.

Eliminate sugar and use artificial sweeteners. Research has shown that sugar can cause a variety of health problems including heart disease. A sweetener like Stevia or Splenda makes a great substitute when used in cooking or added directly to food. These alternatives will taste exactly the same.

If you feel like giving up, then it is time to re-focus on your goals. By getting to the basics of why you set the goals you did, you are more likely to succeed with your goals.

Over a period of time, slowly reduce your sodium and sugar intake by adding less of it to your cooking. Your taste buds may gradually adjust, and you will no longer desire salty or sugary foods, which helps your nutrition improve. This makes it unlikely that you will notice the difference and your food will not seem bland.

Throughout history, fish has been a staple of the human diet all over the world. However, especially in the United States, fish has been replaced by poultry and red meat. Seafood and fish are filling and light foods without high-salt and fat ingredients like you find in red meat. In addition, fish contains lots of Omega-3 fatty acids, which help improve your brain health. To maximize your nutrition, include fish into your menu plan.

One good nutrition idea is to stop eating grains for awhile. If you look at our ancestors, they survived by eating meat, greens, fruits, and nuts. Grains have not been around for very long. Staying away from grains could very well cause you to feel better.

You can prepare a healthier version of your favorite dishes by replacing ground beef with ground turkey. Ground turkey has far less fat and calories. Just make sure you are purchasing ground turkey breast, as dark meat turkey is only slightly different than beef. Check the labels of the meats you purchase to make sure you are getting the meats with the lowest amount of fat.

Urine that is highly pungent and darker in color is an indicator that you may be close to dehydration. If you have drank more than enough, your urine will be a lighter color.

Wellness and health can be linked back to nutrition. There is always so much to learn about eating healthy. While shopping and preparing meals, keep what you have read here in mind.
