When planning a weight loss diet, skip the weight loss bars and shakes. These items are surprisingly calorie-dense and will not satisfy your craving for real food. Instead, you will be hungry and cranky immediately after eating your "meal". Also, many of these items are high in sugar, which will spike your blood sugar and make you even more unhappy.

Walk when you can't workout. If you can't get to the gym because you have to work, skip the potato chips that came with the sandwich, and walk for the rest of your lunch hour. If you don't belong to a gym, walk around your neighborhood, or discover new ones. Walking is a great way to get your heart rate up and improve your mood, and both of these things will help you lose weight.

Discipline yourself while shopping for food. Establish a list of items you need. You should of course base this list on healthy meals and plan ahead what you are going to eat for each day of the week if possible. To avoid temptations, do not let yourself walk through the candy bar or processed meat aisle.

When eating at a restaurant, the portion size they give you is sure to pack on the pounds. In order to lose weight, ask the waiter to put half in a take home bag before you ever get your food. This will allow you to eat a normal size portion, and have another meal for the next day.

When you are attempting to lose weight, one of the first things you need to understand is patience. This will not be a quick journey and it may take you much longer than you expect. That is because as you reach each goal, you will find that you want to go further.

Use the internet social networks to find a great buddy online that is sharing your quest for weight loss. The internet is a great meeting place for people that want to form a bond with someone that they can be personal with without feeling the embarrassment they feel with someone they see every day. This buddy could become a great power driver for your weight loss efforts.

One trick to try while dieting is to leave the food dishes in the kitchen, prepare your plate and then bring your meal to the table. With the food in the kitchen you will be less likely to eat seconds since the extra food is not sitting in front of you while you are eating.

A common cause of obesity is stress, especially in people who respond to stress by convulsively eating. It might be helpful for losing weight to look for ways to reduce stress in your every day life, try taking some time to bathe or relax and read a book.

Make subtle changes to lose weight! Cooking for the whole family? Make some healthy changes into your household. Replace whole milk with one percent or skim and replace other whole fat items with low or no fat versions. When used in recipes, the taste will usually not even be noticeable, and your family probably won't even be aware that you "�just pulled a fast one!'
