Men Having Procedures is More Accepted

By Clea Spahn

While men still significantly trail women in the number of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures performed nationwide, they are becoming increasing commonplace in more waiting rooms. There has been a recent boom in methods that enhance appearance that are non-surgical, and men are now getting involved.

Men like things that are inconspicuous so they don't have to justify their actions to their friends and they like things with no downtime so it doesn't disturb the rest of their lifestyle. Men are even becoming a little more self-conscious about their skin condition and this may be a combination of a high incidence of skin cancer as well as their wish to simply look better. It's also easier to see that the more sun exposed are also the most aged and this is no surprise given the deleterious effect of UV light on the skin's elastic network.

Modern skin care can both protect the skin and improve a lot of the damage that has been done by the sun. It is pretty quick to apply, a little at night before bed, and an application following the morning shave.

Of the types of procedures available, men specifically seem to consider rhinoplasty. Usually it's the size of the nose that is the issue, but an uneven or crooked nose are also reasons for the procedure. Rhinoplasty is generally performed as a day patient under a general anaesthetic and return to work is possible after a week but some bruising may persist for as long as two weeks.

Men are more attracted to a procedure that will leave only minimal scars, so they also look at face lifts and neck lifts, and blepharoplasty. Men do not wish to look like a lot of work has been done. In many cases, a man would mind having some wrinkles less than having obvious signs of having undergone a cosmetic procedure.

Fat is targeted in men using exercise and proper diet regimes, but even so, there are still some areas that have fat remaining. Commonly this is in the flank region or on the abdomen where men tend to carry most of their fat. Shaping of these regions with liposuction can be done as a day patient and return to work the next day is usually possible which can suit the busy male lifestyle.

Men who wish to have a highly sculpted athletic physique may also be interested in hair removal procedures. Using the latest advances in laser technology, hair removal has become more and more effective in recent years. Preceding the series of procedures to target the troublesome areas of the body, it is recommended that tanning is not done.

Men have these procedures done because of their own concerns, and they are not the same as what motivates women. In the world of business, competitiveness is big, and how someone looks is part of it. Finding a cosmetic surgeon that is experienced in procedures for men is a good idea, as it seems that many men today want to appear as they did in their youth.
