Slow Down Ageing with Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

With new developments happening all the time, treating facial wrinkles has become more specialized with a better understanding of cosmetic treatments. No one wants to be though of as "old" but sadly in this world, having younger looking skin is very important and if there are visible wrinkles others will not find a person as attractive.

What is the process of wrinkle treatments like? Treatments in this area are offered by a wide variety of medical professionals, however, what information should you have before deciding? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

What are wrinkle treatments?

Damage to our skin can come from a variety of sources, pollutants in the atmosphere coming from vehicle exhaust, potentially harmful UV exposure from the sun, smoke, many things contribute to this. Wrinkles are just another name for the not very appealing lines that appear on one's face, and in the case of numerous lines, the problem is just compounded.

Removing wrinkles is achieved by using botulinum toxin, as it is an effective wrinkle treatment. Other treatments can include chemical peels, laser treatments and even just plain old skin creams. With all of these processes to be chosen from, it looks as if botox is becoming more well known all the time. We see ads for products on the market constantly, but the truth is that anti-wrinkle creams can only do so much to make wrinkles less noticeable.

Which of the available treatments will have the most benefit?

This is a matter of debate right now, there is no definite answer. Everyone is different, so the treatments chosen are tailored to the specific needs of the patient. Dermal fillers such as botox injections are known to be effective in this, according to the information accumulated, and they seem to be favored by many.

How long do treatments last for?

The effects correlate to the particular treatment that is provided. The limited effects of a product like a skin cream will last for a brief period, but generally it isn't all that effective even when used frequently. Botox injections are a dermal filler option that will typically last for months on end.

The comparison of cost and results

This kind of advanced facial wrinkle treatment can't be bought with pocket change. Skin rejuvenation treatments such as botox injections, and other specialized processes can cost as much as $3000 or more, or be somewhere closer to $300, it really depends on the provider. A less expensive option are skin creams, but they need to be used frequently, and products kept replenished. Treatments over time can be more closely examined, and the cost effectiveness of each one can be determined. It looks like for treatment of facial wrinkles, dermal fillers such as botox treatments are the most economical, in the big picture. Some physicians believe that the CO2 laser is the most cost effective measure.

Downtime following procedures

Skin creams for wrinkles have no downtime whatsoever. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. This of course does not mean that it is the greatest treatment available, or that patients prefer the treatment process any more, as it is reported to be kind of unpleasant.

Summary

A wide variety of treatments exist when it comes to facial wrinkle reduction processes. There are both good and bad points for each kind of treatment. The ultimate choice will depend on the patient, what they can afford, what they are prepared to undergo and the experience of the treating healthcare professional.
