Reasons People Spend Big On Botox

By Marla Nordina

We all know how important physical first impressions are in today's superficial society. The drive to make oneself look as they did in their youth is strong, and many of us will do whatever they can in their attempts to achieve this. Wrinkles and lines on the face are an unsightly and unwelcome sign of ageing, and many people are turning to the idea of getting injections of botox in order to help renew skin that is getting older looking.

Years ago, the only option was to have plastic surgery, and this is a much more invasive procedure, but many people went through with it anyway. Procedures would take hours to perform and weeks to heal. Sometimes it could take more than a month to have the full benefit to be clear. Procedures like this are no longer the only option, because of the use of botox treatments. In a report that was published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2012, there was a marked increase in the use of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as botox injection, while there was a decline in the total number of cosmetic surgeries performed.

Why is this the case?

Plastic surgery is much more expensive, so botox gives someone with a lower economic status the ability to get treatments. Complex cosmetic surgeries are just too expensive these days, and it comes as no surprise that the cheaper, safe and extremely effective botox injections are becoming more and more popular.

It should be noted that people with a larger amount of disposable income would be more likely to get botox, so it is more popular in those circles. We all see pop stars and other celebrities in the papers and magazines, talking about botox procedures they have had.

How did botox get to be so mainstream?

It's safe to say that botox treatments are a huge part of modern cosmetic surgery clinics. The ease of administration, the absence of in-hospital stay for the procedure, its effects and its low cost make it an attractive option when it comes to treating fine lines and wrinkles. Not only do people use these treatments for aesthetic reasons, they are also being used to help blepharospasm, spastic paraplegias, and other kinds of muscle spasms.

The effects can last for months and are obvious and recognisable. When a patient is highly satisfied with the results of their procedure, they are much more likely to promote the procedure to their acquaintances and other people they know.

Botox makes such a huge difference in the lives of those who get the treatments that they are visibly happier and feel more confident, and because of this, more and more people are giving botox a try.
