Issues With Weight Loss Following Pregnancy

By Trishia Serinton

Weight gain during pregnancy is a natural phenomenon. 'Baby weight' refers to the weight that has gained not only by the growing fetus and the enlarging womb but also the deposition of fat around the abdomen. Once the baby is delivered, the mother can have a tough time trying to lose the extra weight. For mothers who had some excess weight before they became pregnant, it can be harder for them to shed the baby weight as well.

Here, we will be looking at some effective ways to shed weight after having a baby.

1. Don't forget to stay hydrated

Following your pregnancy, it is essential to keep hydrated and prevent dehydration. The extra liquid that you consume will also contribute to a fuller feeling in the stomach, which also helps some to avoid eating too much food. Don't over-do it though, drink only what your body craves.

2. Do not have overly strict diets

It seems counter-intuitive, but breast milk needs to be replenished from the food you eat, and when it is not sufficient, the nutrients to the baby may not be rich enough. Dropping a lot of weight quickly is also not thought to be healthy, and doing it over time by having a sensible diet is thought to be much more beneficial. Losing weight the healthy way and getting all of the proper nutrients can be aided greatly by eating fruits and vegetables frequently.

3. Regular exercise is important

Exercise remains one of the best ways to lose weight. Excess calories can be burned in many ways, including cardiovascular exercises like aerobics which will maintain muscles and bone density. There's lots of great exercises to choose from, including cross-training, swimming, brisk walking, and jogging. Endorphins are release during exercise, and this will do a lot to elevate one's mood. This helps the mother handle the stress of looking after a baby a lot more effectively. Before anyone begins a new exercise program, it is important to seek the advice of a doctor, to ensure it is safe.

4. Continue breastfeeding

Essential fats and nutrients are provided to the baby from breastfeeding, these give the baby the right amount of nutrition and helps to enhance the immune system. The effects of breastfeeding on weight loss are debatable. Even if it doesn't, it is no reason to stop breastfeeding an infant.

5. Rest is important

Going through pregnancy can be taxing on the body, and looking after an infant can raise stress levels even further. When a new mother is able to get 7 hours or more of sleep every night, research has shown that this contributes to helping lose weight from the pregnancy.

Synopsis

These methods that are time-tested and proven will help a new mother to shed the excess weight from a pregnancy in a healthy way.
