These Things May be Holding You Back from Losing Weight

By Vito La Fata

If you have tried to drop some extra pounds but have found it difficult, you are not alone. Many people struggle to lose weight. The truth is, there are many reasons why your body may be holding on to extra weight. The challenge for you is to identify what those reasons are.

When you are dealing with stressful things, such as not being able to make your car payment, your body can produce the same kind of chemical compounds that it produces when real danger is at hand, such as the threat of starvation or hypothermia. The effect on your body is that it can cause it to hold on to extra fat in order to be safe. Understanding this sort of thing is part of learning to approach losing weight from the inside, rather than from the outside. There are many perceived threats that could be keeping you from losing weight.

One of those threats that may be keeping you fat is a fear of scarcity. If you are afraid that you are not going to have enough money, your body receives a message that resources may be scarce. Since food is the main resource that your body acknowledges, in the face of such a threat of scarcity, you may end up saving up fat.

Emotional obesity is another threat that may be keeping you in a state of being overweight. Without even realizing it you may have the mindset that carrying around extra weight keeps you safe. In fact, you may think that it helps you in other emotional ways. If this is true, then this may be a reason that you continue to be fat.

You may have an additional threat in the form of a mental threat. Are you starving mentally and emotionally? Are you seeking love or affection but are having trouble finding it? It is possible that this could be translating into overweight issues.

Another area to consider is whether you have dysfunctional beliefs. It is possible that somehow you consider yourself unworthy to be slim and trim. If this is true, then you may, without realizing it, do things to keep yourself overweight.
